Growing baby

Session prep guide

How to prepare yourself & your home.

Expecting and preparing for a new baby can be a mixture of emotions- excitement, overwhelm, love and so much more.

I aim to make this experience as comfortable and relaxing as possible.

Every Growing Baby session is unique to each family. It tells your story from the comfort of your home. These are documentary style sessions with little to no posing. We'll capture all the little moments in between.

Don't stress it!

I know this probably sounds nearly impossible- but I really want your family to enjoy our time together so we can capture real memories.

What to expect

Open all your blinds and curtains. When I arrive, show me around. Together we will pick places in your home with natural light. We will pick 2 or 3 spots where your family will cuddle up and spend most of our session. Popular spaces are the nursery, a bedroom or the living room.

What to wear

Keep it simple and comfy. Whites, creams and soft colors photograph beautifully. Add a pop of color if it's your style. Stay away from busy or large prints and logos. All of these things can take away from your photos and be distracting. We want to focus on these moments and not what dads shirt said. Have backup outfits planned too- just incase!

Just relax!

These sessions are laid back and flexible. We will capture your growing family in your element for memories that last.

quick tips to remember

Find the light.

Open up all the blinds and curtains! We will embrace your homes natural light and turn off all the overhead lights and lamps. We will find spaces with the best natural light and I'll place you next to windows as much as possible.

What to wear.

Simple is best and comfort is key. Keep it neutral, but don't be afraid of a pop of color. Avoid anything super bright like neons or super dark colors like black or navy. Stay away from large prints or tees with large logos. Same applies for siblings, keep it simple!

FAQ

Do you use or bring props?

No. Being a lifestyle photographer, I think less is more. I want to capture your family organically.

My house isn't Pinterest ready..

Neither is mine! I promise it doesn't have to be! All we really need is a window with some good light.

Can I have extended family come to my session?

These sessions are for your immediate family. If you add too many people into the mix, it can become overwhelming for everyone and we might miss some very sweet moments.

More questions?

When in doubt, just ask! Shoot me an email or text. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions.
